Women’s Health and Continence Physiotherapy

Ante Natal patients

The service has the capacity for all pregnant women to be seen by the Woman’s Health physiotherapist who is based within East Lothian community Hospital.

The dedicated number for them to self-refer is printed in their blue maternity notes. A telephone consultation will be undertaken in the first instance, where a face to face appointment can be arranged if clinically indicated. Specialist training has also been delivered to the wider MSK team to allow patients to be seen in either Musselburgh Primary Care Centre or Dunbar medical Centre if they are unable to travel. Referrals are still accepted via SCI gateway and will be triaged as urgent.

Post Natal patients

Self referral are now being accepted for patients presenting with diastasis recti, ongoing pelvic girdle or back pain post-natally. Referrals will be accepted from both the MSK Advice Line and the antenatal self-referral service phone number. Referral is still accepted via SCI gateway if indicated.

Continence and bladder dysfunction

Self-referrals are now accepted for women with any bladder dysfunction or pelvic floor issues. This includes post-natal conditions. Please find attached the self-referral form that woman can complete and return or follow the link to ref help where the self-referral form can be located.
